This year’s Tech-Savvy Superintendents Award recipients included Manny Barbara of Oak Grove Elementary School District in San Jose; Don Iglesias of San Jose Unified School District; and Cindy Ranii of Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District. Each superintendent exemplifies the qualities the KCI was established to promote: supporting and nurturing technology integration in the classroom, demonstrated vision in educational technology and excellence in educational leadership. The KCI’s mission is to create a regional center in Silicon Valley to empower educators and students to dramatically improve learning outcomes through technology and the scholarship of learning. In addition, the KCI seeks to educate teachers in the uses of technology and instructional methods to increase student learning outcomes. The Tech-Savvy Superintendents Award is an outgrowth of the KCI Merit Program. Superintendents were nominated by an KCI Merit Program participant. During the awards ceremony, 51 KCI Merit Program participants and nine KCI Merit Program Fellows teachers also received their final stipends and were honored for completing the yearlong program. The KCI Merit Program begins with an intensive summer workshop after which teachers attend conferences, complete follow-up classes at the KCI and adjudicate California Media & Multimedia Festival projects |
